So, to add to the list of must-sees, even if your right mind says "only if $4.99 and my couch gets me there".... I hereby offer..
I was already in a forgiving mood where Clooney's Gravity performance was concerned, as I had just seen the preview for his telling of the historical "The Monuments Men". More Nazi killing, but for the sake of saving art history? OK. Clooney, Damon, Murray, Goodman and Blanchett? OK some more. Will the Academy dig this? I'm betting my two wins on a solid nod.
No, it's not Boogie Nights 2, but the promotional efforts, ie: series of movie posters featuring the major stars, seem to capture some of the essence of our favorite porno-masterpiece. Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Louis C.K. and Michael Pena will all be arriving in Christmas stockings in the form of American Hustle this year (advance showings 12-13). Con artists + FBI + politics+ crazy ass wife who can screw the whole plan up = the stuff the Academy digs, baby.
OK... hate me for it.,,, but we may have to spend 4 hours with Mr. Hanks this year. That's all I'm going to say.
In spite of hating Mary Poppins, and assuming they are going to whitewash Walt Disney and his murderous hatred of everything non white and christian, I'm still down for Saving Mr. Banks because unlike many in our group I am not a real Tom Hanks-hater. I am however dreading the thought Captain Philips becomes a must-see.

ReplyDeleteI have been informed that not ONLY does Paul want to see Gravity in 3D but that he insists we go see Captain Phlips...at least they are Oscar/GG/BAFTA contenders and not the new Sly/Arnold movie.
