If I were home sick and it came on and I couldn't find the remote it is an ok way to pass the 130 minutes but I happened to cough up $8.50 (had I done the13 dollar 3D version I would be beyond reproach as people were coming out of the 3D theater to throw up in a giant garbage can as we were going into our 2D version) let me start by saying I am not best pleased with this film. As always - I will rely on bullet points to contain my rant.
What I did not like:
- Damn you Disney & Sam Raimi-- I am aware this has a "kid" appeal but neither the kids or I are as dumb as you seem to think-- the actors speak like we are blithering idiots.
- Flowery picturesque Oz bits have a Charlie the Chocolate factory vibe-- NOT our beloved Willy Wonka but the icky re-make. Very Odd. Not really CGI but not really well made... just odd. Not sure what they were going for here.
- So very predictable-- some found It cute to see how certain things came to pass in the original but we found it very predictable, no real a -HAA!! moments here. (the Wicked series is the way to go here).
- I despise James Franco in general so believe me when I say he is not the worst part of this movie. I really like the rest of the cast but their talent is wasted on boring and poorly written dialogue
- And even though he wasn't part of the movie, he was part of the experience so the snot snarfing, throat clearing, "ho we ho-ing" A-hole sitting next to me made this whole think a nightmare.
- The winging Monkey side-kick. He cracked me up.
- Mila Kunis has got a kick-ass cackle laugh.
- I stayed till the end even though I wanted to run run run.
So what you seem to be saying is Sam Raimi should be publicly hoisted on his own petard for this.
